Blakely Jo

Hello 2016!  Ok, so I'm just about a month and a half late ... but better late than never, right??  One of my goals for 2016 is to be a better blogger ... and I couldn't think of a better way to kick off the new year with this darling girl, Blakely Jo. .

Blakely was the sweetest little thing, and was so content in the warm studio ... she made my job way too easy!  During newborn sessions I invite parents to bring something special that they would like their new baby photographed with.  Blakely's mom and dad asked that we incorporate a handmade blanket that was a gift to them, and as soon as I saw it I knew exactly what I was going to do with it :)  This family loves everything outdoors and Blakely is sure to fall right in line hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, the list goes on ... so the elk print blanket couldn't have been more perfect!

Peter and Kaitlyn, thank you so much for sharing your darling girl with me.  I cherished our time together, and cannot wait to watch Blakely grow up as the newest addition to your wonderful family!

xo, Jessie

Oh my gosh, sweet Annie ... I just adore you!  Annie's beautiful mama is my baby cousin (seriously ... I used to play house and use Nellie and her twin sister as my real-life doll babies), and I couldn't be happier for this new little family.  I was so excited when they said they wanted to drive 2+ hours to Bellingham for a newborn session, and for the record ... they seriously made the whole traveling with an infant look way too easy!  I so, so enjoyed my time snuggling this precious new addition to the family while catching up with Nellie and Andrew.  If one thing is for certain Annie Girl ... you are one blessed little baby, you have the most amazing parents who love you to the moon and back! .

Thank you Nellie and Andrew for sharing your little darling with me ... I can't wait to see you all again very soon!

It was such a treat to have this sweet pea in the studio for her newborn session, she was such a sleepy little darling!  Hattie's family are life-long friends of the Bennett family, so during her session we spent a lot of time reminiscing of summer's gone by at the beach cabin ... and talking about future friendships of this next generation.  I could not be happier that my own kiddos get to grow up alongside Hattie and her cousins at the beach cabin, it makes my mama heart so happy! .

Dante's session was such a special one for me (broken record alert ... I think I say that at every session!) Not only was Dante's big sister one of my very first newborn sessions just two short years ago in which I collaborated with two of my favorites Kamriell Welty and Jennifer Morrow; but also do you remember the little darling Presley that I blogged about here?  Well, Dante and Presley are cousins, born only 3 days apart!  So naturally, I begged asked Presley's parents to bring her by the studio at the beginning of the session so I could get a few cousin pictures (I may or may not have pretended they were twins :) but that is neither here nor there).  Dante was such a sweet boy for his session and was happy as a clam snuggling with his big sister Giana.  I know for certain that those two will be the best of friends growing up! .

I am so excited that my little business is now in a place where I am beginning to see 2nd children being born to the families in which I photograph.  It is wonderful watching families grow right alongside Jessie Bennett Photography.  I am so happy with the growth that I have seen in my work over the last couple of years, and I look forward to continuing to challenge myself with each new and returning client.

.

Thank you Caitlin and Rory for giving me the opportunity to capture your sweet little family of four!

Little Eli came to visit me just shy of his 3 week birthday, and was as sweet as can be during his session!  Not often do I get newborns over the 2 week mark, as that is generally their most sleepy time in life (well ... maybe until the teenage years) but Eli was as good as gold and slept like a champ through the entire 3 hours we were together.  I had such a wonderful time getting to know Eli's parents and was so touched when his mama fought back tears while I posed him ... the pride in her eyes was so, so endearing.  Seeing and interacting with new parents and their newborns is such a gift, and I feel blessed every day to call this my job.  Capturing these moments for these new families and giving them photographic memories to last a lifetime is truly the most amazing thing! .

Oh sweet Presley ... the newest addition to second generation friendships for my kiddos :) .

This little snuggly thing was an absolute dream to have in the studio for her newborn session.  She was so sleepy, so relaxed, and that hair ... a photographer's dream!  Presley's daddy is one of my husband's oldest friends, and his new little family of three has just moved back to Bellingham.  We are so excited to have them close by for play dates, birthday parties, and bbq's ... to watch our kids grow up together, just like their daddy's did so many years ago.  As a photographer I get so, SO excited to book a newborn session ... they are easily one of my favorites, and getting to spend the day with friends makes it even better!

.

Miles and Aimee, I could not be happier for you two.  Your sweet Presley is such a little blessing in so many people's lives, and I am so, so grateful that I get to be part of her life.

I had such a wonderful time getting to know Isak and his family during his newborn session.  He was such a sweet and calm little baby, and was happiest curled up into a tight little ball ... I'm guessing it was his favorite position inside his mama's belly.  Having the opportunity to snuggle these newborns, and document their first days is such a blessing.  As a parent I've heard it a million times, and I think I've probably said it a billion times ... time goes way too fast, and capturing these first days for a new family is truly amazing.  Each newborn session is so unique, but the love shared between parents and child is a constant reminder of how beautiful life, in all it's stages, really is!  I feel so fortunate to give these families the gift of photography ... and am so grateful to them for allowing me to be a part of this very precious time in their lives. .

Nora was such a darling during her photo session; and it was so much fun snuggling her just 4 short days after she was born.  I was blessed to be able to photograph Nora's birth store, which you can read about here, and having her in the studio for newborn photos was so special.  I have been so blessed to get to know this family over the past couple months, as Megan and I were in constant contact in the weeks and days leading up to little Nora's birth.  I am so glad that they asked me to capture this very exciting time as they grew from a family of three to four.  Big brother Henry was just as cute as can be, and I have no doubt that he and Nora will share a very special sibling bond.

Hello Nora! | Bellingham Birth Photographer

Hello Nora! | Bellingham Birth Photographer

This little lady had me on pins and needles in the weeks leading up to her birth day, however as the old adage goes 'baby comes when baby's ready' ... and when she was ready, she was ready!  I got the text at about 11:30pm Monday night that Megan and Adam were headed to the hospital.  I waited it out for a bit, thinking that I could get a few hours of sleep before going in myself ... ha.  I didn't get a wink of sleep, I felt like the little boy in the old Disneyland commercials 'I'm too excited to sleep!' After a few progress updates, I decided to gather my gear and drive in to the hospital at about 1:00am. .

I got to the hospital soon after Megan received her epidural and she was settling in to try and get some rest.  I promptly made new friends, as Megan's mom and godparents were also just arriving to wait things out.  I think one thing that is so special about documenting births is what happens during this very special time outside of the actual laboring and delivery.  It was heart warming to see the soon-to-be grandma and grand-godmom (yes, I think I just made that up) sharing stories of days gone by and bursting with pride as they waited to meet the newest addition to the family.

.

Sweet Nora was born just a little after 5:00am on Tuesday and was absolutely perfect.  I stuck around just long enough to capture her being weighed, measured, and get her footprints and then slipped away to let Megan and Adam get to know their little girl.

.

Had you asked me 5 years ago about birth photography, I probably would have turned an unflattering shade of red and tried to change the subject ... but then I had children, and everything changed.  If you asked me today what my #1 goal is as a photographer, I would without a doubt whole-heartedly say to focus on birth photography.  Birth stories are beautiful, they are unique, and they should be celebrated.  I look back on my own birth experiences with such joy, and although I can easily remember the major things that happened during labor, the small details that make each child's birth date so special begin to fade into distant memories.  It is my hope as a birth photographer that I am able to capture these little moments, so they can be remembered as the days, weeks, and years drift on all too quickly.

.

Thank you Megan and Adam for giving me the opportunity to capture Nora's birth, it was a very special day that I will not soon forget.

Addie | Bellingham Newborn Photographer

This session was a special one for me, as I have known Addie's mama since the first day I hopped on the school bus in kindergarten.  There is just something so amazing about watching childhood friends become parents for the first time; although part of me feels like we aren't old enough to be entering into this new phase in our lives ... shouldn't we all still be playing on the playground at recess?!  Parenthood is such a beautiful thing, and spending a few hours with these families after they have welcomed a new baby into the world is such a gift.  Addie was an absolute dream to photograph, so sleepy, so curly, and that hair ... so, so darling. .

Thank you Stephanie and Greg for the opportunity to snuggle your sweet little Addie; I look forward to watching her grow and cannot wait for our paths to cross again soon!

Having Remi in the studio for her newborn session was such a treat!  It never ceases to amaze me how quickly newborns change, and getting to document Remi's time in the hospital at just a few hours old (which can be seen here) and then again 11 days later at her newborn session really reminded me of how quickly it all goes!  This little gal didn't want to close her eyes at the beginning of the session ... I think she already knows that as the youngest of three girls, there's no time to sleep for fear of missing out on something :)  However as the session went on, she decided to cave to a good ol' nap and was the perfect little model! .

Thank you again to Rory and Tricia for sharing your beautiful family with me.  I look forward to seeing you all again very soon!

Opie-15.jpg

I think I have been dreaming about this session since the moment I found out that Daniel and Jessica were expecting their first child, and the anticipation only grew as they neared their due date.  There was just one very small detail that needed to be ironed out before I could get this little gal in front of my camera ... you see, they live in southern California.  With an early May due date, I decided that a quick trip over the Memorial Day long weekend would work out perfectly.  However little Penelope had us biting our nails as her due date came and went ... I was starting to think that my quick newborn session trip was going to end up as a quick maternity session trip.  Alas, Penelope decided she was ready for the world and was born 9 days past her due date and just 3 days before my trip! .

When I walked into Daniel and Jessica's house and saw Penelope sleeping peacefully in her crib, I was overcome with gratitude.  For Daniel and Jessica who welcomed me into their lives the moment I met them many years ago (not to mention their home just 4 days after their daughter was born), for this 'job' that allows me to capture these important moments in life, for my husband who graciously encouraged me to make the trip south, and for friendships ... old and new.  I have mentioned before how lucky I got in the friend in-law department (you know, my husband's friends that through marriage I acquired) and this trip just made me even more grateful for these amazing people that my life has been blessed with.

 .

Daniel and Jessica, thank you for a wonderful visit.  Luke and I are so happy to share the amazing ride that is parenting with you two.

Remi-Hospital-2.jpg

I have always loved visiting new babies, so it is no wonder that Hello World sessions are some of my absolute favorites!  Those first few hours with a new baby are so beautiful; love is palpable as new parents quietly study every tiny detail of their child, and new bonds are forged as siblings meet for the first time.  My session with Remi in the hospital just 10 short hours after she was born was all of these things and more, and I was honored to capture these firsts for this beautiful family.  With two amazing parents and two darling big sisters, this little girl is so blessed.  Thank you Tricia and Jory for sharing this very special day with me, this is a session I won't soon forget. .

Little Ramona came to visit me in the studio when she was 9 days old, and was an alert little beauty!  Usually newborns sleep for the majority of their sessions, however Ramona was much too interested in the crazy lady with the camera to give in to sleep :)  I had so much fun capturing this wakeful time, something that can be so hard to come by in those first few days of life. .

During the session I was reminded of the changed family dynamic when going from one child to two ... a new normal of four instead of three.  As I was taking pictures of Ramona and big brother Strummer, I heard their mama say 'look at our children ... this is our family!' and it moved me to tears!  You could hear the pride in her voice as she spoke to her husband and they both looked lovingly at their boy cradling his little sister in his arms.  It is these moments that fill my heart with so much gratitude ... I LOVE what I do, I will say it a million times and it won't ever be adequate.  It is such a gift to spend my days with families, capturing the love ... the fun ... the real life moments that are part of their story.

.

Thank you Blake and Jessie for sharing your family with me ... I look forward to seeing Strummer and Ramona grow!  (Doesn't this family have the best names?!  I might be slightly biased, but being a Jessie Rose, and meeting another Jessie Rose was pretty fantastic)

Oh, how I adore this darling little girl!  Miss Ingrid was so, so sweet during her newborn session ... I could have cuddled her forever!  As a mommy myself, I think that one of the most amazing things to witness are friends thriving in their newfound role as parents; and these two are absolute naturals!  Watching the connection between Tessa and Ingrid (whom she affectionately called 'Peanut'), and Josh and Ingrid (whom he cheekily called 'Scallywag' ... after a certain potty incident occurred) tugged at my heartstrings and warmed my soul.  This little girl is equal parts blessing and blessed ... a blessing in so many people's lives, and blessed beyond measure to have Tessa and Josh for parents. .

I think that one of the most amazing 'perks' of marrying my husband, was getting to claim his group of friends as my own ... whether they like it or not ;)   I feel as though I've known these two forever (and maybe through osmosis, I have?) and as with any good friendship, you can pick right up where you left off the last time you saw each other.  My time with this sweet family was just that, and as we said our goodbyes, I couldn't wait to see them again - to continue the conversation, and of course love on Ingrid some more.  I may or may not have stopped by their house after the session under the guise of dropping dinner off for them ... but really I think we all know it was to see Ingrid again :)

.

I truly can not wait to watch Ingrid grow up along side my children ... as they say, history has a way of repeating itself - and I pray that this is the case with a second generation friendship :)

I absolutely adored my time with Lincoln in the nursery of our local hospital, he was just the sweetest, calmest, toughest little man!  His mama and I had been planning his 'Hello World' session for months, and of course, things ended up going a bit differently that we had envisioned ... darn you Murphy and your Law ;)  Little Lincoln was ready for the world, even if his lungs weren't - which landed him in the nursery with a ventilator and feeding tubes.  After going back and forth, we decided to proceed with his hospital session 4 days after he was born, after all, this was his story ... tubes, wires, monitors and all! .

Thank you Tylah and Andrew for sharing your little guy with me.  The strength and courage your family has shown through adversity is truly inspiring!  I am so happy to hear that Lincoln will be released from the hospital soon, ready to conquer the world (and properly be introduced to his sister!)

I already know I'm going to go through Hannah withdrawals! Hannah 6 Days Old
